Ashland, OR (February 5th, 2013) – Over 23,000 visitors set
their sights on Oregon breweries during Zwickelmania in 2012 and that figure is
projected to grow on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the 5th Annual
Zwickelmania. Statewide, breweries are opening their doors with free tours and
tastings, giving visitors a chance to meet brewers and learn more about the
beer-making process.
In Southern Oregon, five local breweries are celebrating the
annual event in unique ways, offering tours, classes, demonstrations and more.
A complete list of all participating Oregon breweries can be found at http://oregonbeer.org/zwickelmania.
“This is an opportunity for people who are interested to
step over the threshold into the brewery and learn how we make beer,” says head
brewer Larry Chase of Standing Stone Brewing Company in Ashland.
For a full afternoon
of sampling and meeting the Rogue Valley’s craft brewers, visitors can stop in
at all of the following:
- Standing Stone Brewing Co in Ashland, OR – Brewery tours
and tastings at 12pm and 1pm. Free class on Beer Ingredients and Flavor at 3pm.
- Caldera Brewing in Ashland, OR – Brewery tours, beer
tastings, cases for sale and Parking Lot Sale 11-4pm.
- Apocalypse Brewing in Medford, OR – Brewery tours and
brewing demonstrations
- BricktownE Brewing in Medford, OR – $2 chicken tacos and
debut of Runaway Train, an Indian Red Ale
- Southern Oregon Brewing in Medford, OR – Brewery tour at
4pm and Happy Hour at 7pm.
“Each year, Oregon breweries are seeing a rising interest
from people who are excited to experience the inner workings of a brewery,”
says Oregon Brewers Guild executive director, Brian Butenschoen. “This is that
rare time of the year where people get exclusive access to the breweries and
brewers.”
Visitors are encouraged to take pictures of the breweries
while they’re touring and to use the hashtag #Zwickel13 when posting to Twitter
and Instagram. Additionally, anyone who posts a photo from the event to the
Zwickelmania Facebook page will be entered for a chance to win a prize package
containing two glasses and 10 tickets each to the upcoming event “Cheers to
Belgian Beers.”
