Seattle Brews Cruise - May 5, 2013
The Seattle Brews Cruise is a new urban ride produced by the Cascade Bicycle Club for recreational cyclists who appreciate city riding and quality Pacific Northwest microbrews.
The ride begins at Schooner Exact Brewery in Seattle’s SODO District. Schooner Exact Brewery is named after the ship that “The Denny Party” landed in Seattle in 1851…and as such, is quite the fitting start/finish location for our new Emerald City based “cruise”.
Registration and packet pick-up hours:10 -11:30 a.m. at Schooner Exact.
Course open: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Airways Brewing mid-point open: 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Schooner Exact Finish Line Festival open: Noon - 5 p.m.
A 30-mile route is the main Brews Cruise route. Riders can also opt for a shorter 16 mile route out to Tukwila and back (no rest stop) or a 45 mile option that fully utilizes the beautiful Green River Trail all the way to downtown Kent, before heading back on the Interurban Trail to the Airways Brewing Company rest stop.
ABOUT THE RIDE:
The flat 30 mile loop (with a 15 and 45 mile option) will take riders to Kent and back utilizing the 1st Ave Bridge, Duwamish, Green River, and Interurban bike trails, and lightly traveled roads in between. On the way back riders will have a chance to swing north on Airport Way, through the eclectic area of Georgetown before docking in SODO at the finish line party. With a mere 150 feet of total elevation gain and a leisurely start time of 10 - 11:30 a.m.; the Seattle Brews Cruise is a fun, early season social ride ideal for riders of all types.
The mid-point food stop for both the 30 and 45-mile routes will be at Airways Brewing Company in Kent. Riders can grab a bite to eat at the rest stop plus enjoy a complimentary soft drink or an 8 oz beer (or optional two 4 oz sample-size beers). Departing the “Airways” port of call riders will enjoy music in the parking lot before “cruising” the 13 miles back to SODO and the awesome finish line party.
Both the start/finish line and the mid-point stop will feature an outdoor festival-style setting with mechanical support, cool tunes, food options and the opportunity to sample beer. With their paid registration riders will receive a t-shirt, custom pint glass, and two complimentary beverage tickets. Riders will have also the option to use their beverage tickets for soft drinks if preferred.
Sample size portions and soft drinks will be available at each venue. Designated drivers, family and friends are most welcome at the Finish line party. We expect participants to drink responsibly at this event, just like they would at any other social gathering or ride event that includes alcoholic beverages.
Being an early May event you might well ask “what if it rains?”
Well, we are riding to/from two awesome breweries on a very scenic, lightly trafficked, flat course with great friends and fellow cyclists along…so really, who cares if it rains?
Scheduled to take place at the beginning of Bike Month, the ride aims to kick off a month of fun events and appeal to the many cyclists who have a passion for both bikes and quality beer. The ride highlights both some of the best trails and urban bike routes south of the city while offering riders the opportunity to sample some of the area’s finest microbrews. Riders and their families alike will enjoy the Finish Line bash at Schooner Exact- we’ll have live music, bike parking galore and a cool indoor/outdoor party setting.
In its first year the event capacity will be limited to about 500 riders; so, registering early is advised -- if you wait until the day of event, you might be disappointed.
